Our Projects
Water Testing and Data Gathering
Lake residents have been doing water quality testing during the summers for years. We intend to add to this to do additional testing. We also intend to purchase monitoring systems to continuously track depth, rainfall, temperature and water cloudiness over time in order to have actionable data to inform our future efforts. Check back later, as we’ll soon have a formal project proposal in place
Stop Primary
Spillway Leak
We currently have a leak in the lake’s primary spillway - where the water flows out of the lake and into Buffalo Creek. This leak is approximately 40-50 gallons a minute, and it is eroding a berm just beside the dam. We are currently designing the fix. Check back later, when we’ll have a formal project proposal.
Aquatic Wildlife Health
The Lake is home to so many plants, fish, birds and reptiles! We want to encourage maximum diversity of native species, We want to have healthy populations of fish. We want the lake to nurture food sources for all of the wildlife in and around it.
Additionally, we desire to strike an appropriate balance with the human residents of the lake as well!
We are currently working on a project to assess fish populations and restock / provide habitat for healthy native fish species, to the benefit of both fish and fishermen.
Check back later, when we’ll have a formal project proposal here.
Approximate cost: $11,000 one time
and $2,000 annually thereafter
Stem Erosion of Earthen Dam Section
The earthen portion of our dam has eroded somewhat over the years. It’s amazing what very small wind and storm-whipped waves can do over time! We intend to put riprap stone along this portion of the dam to prevent it from worsening, Check back later when we’ll have a formal project proposal.
Approximate Cost: $9,500
Build a multipurpose siding for boats and erosion control
We intend to construct a siding near the dam. The purpose of this is threefold: First, to provide easy access for a small barge that will eventually be used in our silt removal processes. Second, to provide a place for people to get onto and off of boats for our educational programs,. Finally, to correct an erosion problem caused at the particular spot in periods of very high water. We are currently designing this. Please check back later, when we’ll have a formal project proposal here.
Invasive/Overpopulated Species Control
Nature abhors a vacuum, and lakes like ours are a draw for wildlife! Currently, we are developing strategies for wisely managing the populations of deer and geese, and also considering how to prevent the overgrowth of aquatic plants. We will soon have some specifics identified, so please check back later for project proposals,
